Guest play
Guest play lets people play your game's matches without creating an account. A guest picks a name and sits down. It is part of the Designer and Professional plans, and it follows the plan of the game's creator (its earliest admin), so every admin of the game can use it while the creator's plan includes it.
Turning it on
Open your game in the studio and choose Guests under Access. Admins see two switches:
- Let guests join matches. Anyone with a match link can take a seat by choosing a name. Signing in stays one button away.
- Let guests host matches. A guest can start a match from the game's page (
/play/<slug>) and share its link. Hosting needs joining, so this switch is off while guests cannot join, and turning joining off turns hosting off too.
Both switches are off for a new game. While the creator's plan leaves guest play out, both switches are locked. The settings are kept, and they apply again once the plan includes guest play.
What guests can do
A guest's sign-in lasts a week. In that time they can play the matches they join or host, watch matches, and leave playtest feedback. A guest host can start the match, but cannot switch the lobby to another game or change who may watch. A guest cannot create games, run events, or favorite games. A host cannot switch a lobby with a guest in it to a game that does not let guests join. If guests can no longer join when a match ends, its rematch leaves them out.
Guests at an event's tables are separate: the event's own Who can sit down setting decides those. See the Events and tables section.
Keeping a guest account
A guest who wants to come back can open Settings and keep the account, either by adding an email and a password or by connecting a Discord account. The guest's name, matches and feedback stay with it. An email or a Discord account that already belongs to another Boardweaver account cannot be used; sign in to that account instead.
